Health And Safety In Public Art

Every work place or educational placement has different ways of working safely and different procedures to control the health and safety of the people involved.
As artists we have to also control what we do, as we have to look at  whether what ever we are designing is safe and is suitable to what the public are using it for.

WHERE?

This is what we have to think about when we are designing our public art as we need to be aware of where we are putting the piece, as it could be in a walk way, if so you might want to think about whether people will be walking past it a lot and there could be dangers of a tripping hazard.

WHO?

You need to think about who will be looking and interacting with your piece, as there could small children around your work and could be very dangerous.

WHAT?

What will you be making your work with and will it be suitable and sustainable to weather conditions, and if it will last, as that is a key thing to think about.

These are a few things I will be considering in the public art unit:

  • Design/Shape of piece
  • Size
  • Strength
  • Location - Site
  • Electronics
  • Social
  • Economic
  • Subject
  • Offensive
  • maintenance
  • Public liability insurance
